Termites (known as white ants) are the number one pest for property owners. They can cause major damage to a home’s or building’s foundation.
Termites are broken into three social categories:
Worker termites are the ones that do the work needed to keep the colony alive including foraging, food storage, brood, and nest maintenance.
They are the protectors of the colony. They defend the termite nest from other bugs like ants.
and also called "alates", The Queens are the female termites that fly, mate, and produce eggs. They are the most important kind of termite because without the queen a termite colony will not be able to grow.
The swarmers are emitted in their thousands when a mature termite nest is large and well established. They land, shed their wings and attract a mate by pheromone chemical signal. If you find swarming termites, it is a sure DANGER sign that a large termite colony nest is close by.
Subterranean termites are most commonly found across the UAE. they are a highly destructive timber pest, causing major structural timber damage to domestic / commercial buildings all over the country.
Subterranean termites are small in size (about half the size of match-head) and soft bodied insects. They build a central colony nest from which they construct underground tunnels that radiate within a 90 meter radius from a central colony nest in search of a timber (cellulose) food source.
Authorities in the UAE made it obligatory to have a Pre Construction Termite Treatment prior to construction of any commercial or residential property, which works as a great prevention method.
But in case of termite infestation, a termite treatment will be need, which includes drilling around the premises and injecting pesticides inside the drilled holes to form an anti-termite barrier around the premises.
